Ivory Coast – Urban Mobility: Prime Minister Beugré Mambé Outlines Government Efforts to Improve Traffic Flow in Greater Abidjan

The 2021–2025 National Development Plan (PND) has mobilized substantial resources, a significant portion of which has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for Ivorians.

During the official handover ceremony of 200 new buses to the Abidjan Transport Company (SOTRA) on July 9, 2025, in Abidjan, Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance the mobility of people and goods in Côte d’Ivoire. According to Prime Minister Beugré Mambé, like the previous National Development Plans (PND) for 2012–2015 and 2016–2020, the 2021–2025 plan has mobilized considerable resources, with a significant share allocated to improving Ivorians’ quality of life. He emphasized that transportation is central to this strategy, with massive investments in highways, roads, railways, and the urban transport system

The head of government recalled the construction of major infrastructure projects aimed at easing urban transportation, including the 4th and 5th bridges, as well as the Y4 bypass road, the development of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, the redevelopment of Latrille Boulevard, and more. According to him, these substantial infrastructure investments help ease travel, lower transportation costs, and sustainably improve living conditions for Ivorians.

Transport Minister Amadou Koné, for his part, stated that the government is firmly committed to establishing an integrated and coherent transport network, where SOTRA buses will seamlessly operate alongside the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and the Abidjan Metro.

According to Amadou Koné, the 200 IVECO buses are just one step in the pursuit of a modern, inclusive, and sustainable urban transport system. He expressed the government’s ambition to move toward industrializing the sector: “This momentum will soon extend to San Pedro, where a complementary project will strengthen our transport industry, create jobs, and reduce our dependence on imports.”
