The Director General of the National Railway Company of Senegal (SN-CFS), Ibrahima Ba, announced on Wednesday in Diourbel an ambitious plan to construct 2,000 kilometers of new standard-gauge railway tracks across the country. This initiative is part of the “Senegal 2050” vision and aims to develop a modern railway infrastructure similar to that of the Regional Express Train (TER).
Speaking during a working visit to the Diourbel railway station, where he met with sector stakeholders alongside his colleagues, Ba specified that the first phase of this program will focus on the Dakar-Tambacounda line. This project is designated as a priority for President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s current five-year term. The ongoing studies are being updated to revitalize commercial exchanges between Senegal and Mali.
Ba emphasized the need for a recovery plan in the railway sector to rejuvenate this segment of transportation. The visit also aimed to share the company’s new directions with employees and to define its role in implementing the “Senegal 2050” vision. Additionally, it provided an opportunity to gather workers’ concerns regarding their working conditions in order to achieve sustainable improvements.
