(APS) The Minister of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport, Malick Ndiaye, promised, Monday, in Dakar, to support the regulatory framework put in place the same day to promote and regulate the use of electric car in Senegal.
”It is necessary to put in place a regulatory framework to encourage dealers, importers and users to opt for electric vehicles,” said Mr. Ndiaye.
He was speaking at a workshop devoted to the establishment of a regulatory framework responsible for governing the entry of electric cars into Senegal.
”The regulatory framework examined today resolutely contributes to the development of electric cars in Senegal and the fight against greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector,” he assured.
The use of electric vehicles requires “a well-considered and coordinated strategy in terms of regulation”, underlined Malick Ndiaye.
According to him, Senegal benefits from the support of England regarding the introduction of electric cars in its territory.
”With the help of the Manufacturing Africa company (an English company), we will look for ways and means to provide our country not only with a regulatory framework, but also with the necessary mechanisms to encourage the Senegalese to use vehicles more. electric,” promised Mr. Ndiaye.
A “global master plan” for infrastructure and transport systems will be developed in Senegal, the Minister of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport also announced.
”The objective of this plan is to have multimodality and a certain intermodality between types of transport in order to reconfigure infrastructure and transport, particularly in Dakar,” he explained.
”The transition to electric cars will not only reduce costs but also have a positive impact on populations, because there will be very comfortable mass transport, with preferential rates,” assured Malick Ndiaye.
He invited the national private sector to “propose technical and financial offers to invest and develop charging infrastructure” for electric cars.
”I invite […] not to be wait-and-see at the risk of leaving the current void to multinationals and losing this great opportunity,” said Mr. Ndiaye, specifying that ”the highly anticipated local offers will be studied with diligence by the […] relevant ministries”.
