Spiro (www.Spironet.com), Africa’s leading electric mobility company, is strengthening its presence in Ghana with the introduction of the Ekon 450 M1 V3 electric motorcycle and its battery-swapping solution. By combining electric two-wheelers with a network of stations providing quick access to fully charged batteries, Spiro aims to make daily travel more affordable and convenient for riders while supporting Ghana’s transition towards sustainable mobility.
For professional riders and delivery services, fuel expenses and vehicle downtime have a direct impact on daily earnings. Spiro’s integrated solution addresses both challenges: riders can exchange a depleted battery for a fully charged one at a Spiro station in just two minutes, while potentially saving up to $2 per day in operating costs compared with traditional petrol-powered motorcycles.
Ghana represents a major opportunity for electric mobility, with a rapidly growing two-wheeler market and increasing demand from riders.
Designed to meet the everyday mobility needs of African riders, the Ekon 450 M1 V3 offers an alternative to petrol-powered motorcycles. Thanks to Spiro’s battery-swapping technology, riders can quickly get back on the road without having to wait for their vehicle to recharge.
Auroasish Choudhuri, Managing Director of Spiro for Central and West Africa, said: “Our entry into Ghana marks an important milestone in strengthening Spiro’s presence in West Africa. Our priority is to develop a reliable local ecosystem combining electric motorcycles with convenient access to battery-swapping stations. By working closely with our local partners and listening to riders’ needs, we aim to encourage the sustainable adoption of electric mobility in Ghana.”
Kaushik Burman, CEO Mobility of Spiro, said: “Ghana represents a major opportunity for electric mobility, with a rapidly growing two-wheeler market and increasing demand from professional riders and delivery services. By combining the Ekon 450 M1 V3 with our battery-swapping solution, we are addressing two major barriers to electric mobility adoption: operating costs and access to charging infrastructure. Our ambition is to lay the foundations for the large-scale development of electric mobility across Ghana.”
To support its rollout, Spiro is organising test rides, motorcycle presentations and live demonstrations of its battery-swapping technology for potential customers across the Greater Accra Region. These initiatives will allow riders to experience the Ekon 450 M1 V3 and better understand how battery swapping can fit into their daily journeys.
Maxwell Dodd, Managing Director of Spiro Ghana, said: “For Ghanaian riders, the benefits of electric mobility are measured in everyday terms: lower operating costs, less downtime and more time on the road. With the Ekon 450 M1 V3 and our battery-swapping solution, we aim to make these benefits accessible and support riders in their transition to electric motorcycles.”
Spiro’s expansion into Ghana is part of its broader growth strategy across Africa. Following a recent $270 million equity funding round, complemented by $18 million in debt financing from the Africa Go Green Fund, the company is continuing to develop its electric mobility ecosystem, with the ambition of establishing operations in 20 African markets. Spiro is also preparing to enter new countries, including Ethiopia, Malawi, Mali and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
