Egypt: DP World launches the country’s first integrated logistics distribution centre at Sokhna

DP World has opened Egypt’s first integrated Logistics Distribution Centre (LDC) at Sokhna Logistics Park within the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The facility is designed to centralise logistics operations for the Egyptian market while serving regional flows across Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

Egypt strengthens its supply chain with a new regional hub

On 1 July 2026, DP World officially launched the country’s first integrated Logistics Distribution Centre at Sokhna Logistics Park, adjacent to Sokhna Port in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). The inauguration was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, DP World executives and representatives of international companies.

During the launch, the first three commercial agreements were signed with international customers that will use the facility as a regional inventory and distribution hub.

The new Logistics Distribution Centre combines multiple supply chain functions in a single location, including international freight forwarding, port operations, warehousing, inventory management, order fulfilment, customs facilitation, transport coordination and value-added services such as assembly, packaging, relabelling and product customisation.

This integrated model allows manufacturers and distributors to hold inventory in one regional hub before distributing goods to multiple markets, reducing stock shortages and lowering the costs associated with operating several logistics platforms.

First customers target regional markets

The initial customer portfolio reflects the facility’s regional positioning.

A Kenyan tea exporter will use the centre as an inventory hub serving Egypt, Africa, the Middle East and Europe. The company handles approximately 1,000 TEUs per year.

A global consumer goods distributor will operate through a dedicated temperature-controlled facility to support eight markets across Saudi Arabia, the Levant and the Horn of Africa.

A German multinational specialising in fibre-optic cables and digital infrastructure solutions will use the hub to expand distribution and re-export activities across Egypt, North Africa and Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

A new tool to streamline Egypt’s logistics flows

The launch comes as Egypt seeks to strengthen its role as a logistics gateway linking Asia, Africa and Europe through the Suez Canal corridor.

By positioning inventory closer to industrial centres and end markets, the LDC is expected to:

  • reduce lead times;

  • improve supply chain resilience;

  • optimise storage and distribution costs;

  • facilitate re-export operations from Egypt.

DP World says it has invested more than USD 1.4 billion in Egypt’s logistics infrastructure, including the expansion of Sokhna Port, the development of Sokhna Logistics Park and a new cold chain facility currently under development.

Why it matters

Key takeaways
  • Faster logistics operations through the integration of port, customs and distribution services.

  • Stronger competitiveness for exporters and manufacturers serving multiple markets from a single platform.

  • Reinforced role for Egypt as a regional logistics hub on one of the world’s busiest trade corridors linking Asia, Africa and Europe.

Regional perspective

The launch highlights the growing importance of integrated logistics platforms around major African ports. As regional trade accelerates, particularly under the African Continental Free Trade Area, countries are investing in hubs that combine port services, warehousing, customs facilitation and distribution to capture a larger share of trade and re-export flows.

With the opening of its first integrated logistics distribution centre, Egypt adds another pillar to its supply chain strategy around the Suez Canal. For shippers and manufacturers, the facility provides a single platform to manage inventory, accelerate regional deliveries and reduce logistics costs.
