DP World Launches “Atlas Service,” a Direct Maritime Link Between Morocco and Europe

Logistics group DP World has introduced a new maritime transport service, called Atlas Service, which directly connects Moroccan ports with the London and Antwerp terminals. This line has been specifically designed for the handling of perishable goods, with the aim of streamlining agricultural exports and strengthening Morocco’s role as a key regional logistics hub between Africa and Europe.

This announcement highlights DP World’s commitment to expanding transport options available to Moroccan exporters. Historically, a large share of trade relied on road transport—a longer mode often subject to border complications.

The new Atlas Service establishes a direct maritime corridor to two strategic hubs in Northern Europe: London Gateway (United Kingdom) and Antwerp Gateway (Belgium). This fast and reliable link meets the speed and safety requirements of export supply chains.

A Major Impact on Moroccan Agriculture and Logistics
This new route is particularly beneficial for Morocco’s agriculture, the country’s leading export sector. The refrigerated maritime transport offered by the service is ideally suited to maintaining the quality and freshness standards of fruits, vegetables, and perishables.

By eliminating road convoys that previously covered nearly 3,000 kilometers, the Atlas Service boosts the competitiveness of Moroccan producers in European markets while reducing risks associated with logistical bottlenecks.

Beyond its commercial dimension, the project reflects Morocco’s broader logistics modernization strategy. The resounding success of Tanger Med has already positioned the Kingdom among the world’s top-performing port platforms. The addition of direct connections to Europe further consolidates this status, drawing investor interest and reinforcing Morocco’s ambition to become a critical anchor point for intercontinental trade flows.

Competitiveness and Environmental Commitment
The environmental dimension is also central to this initiative. Long-distance road transport is both more costly and more polluting. By prioritizing maritime routes, DP World and its partners actively contribute to reducing the carbon emissions linked to supply chains.

This choice aligns with a growing trend where sustainability and competitiveness go hand in hand in logistics models. For Morocco, the Atlas Service represents a powerful lever for economic modernization and a strong signal to international markets regarding its commitment to greener logistics.
