The Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC) Secures €100 Million Trade Finance Facility from Afreximbank

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has granted a €100 million trade finance facility to the Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC) to support key regional integration projects within the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC). The facility will also help upgrade trade infrastructure in the CEMAC region.

The agreement was signed on June 5, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria, on the sidelines of the official launch of the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE). Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank and Chairman of its Board of Directors, signed on behalf of the pan-African institution, while Dieudonné Evou Mekou, President of BDEAC, signed on behalf of his organization.

This agreement confirms the strong partnership between BDEAC and Afreximbank, two institutions at the forefront of financing African economies.

Following the signing, Professor Oramah highlighted the importance of the facility in strengthening regional integration:

“This facility marks another important milestone in Afreximbank’s efforts to deepen trade and investment and bridge the trade infrastructure gap in the CEMAC region. Through this credit line, Afreximbank and BDEAC are sending a strong message to our people: it is through solid partnerships and the pooling of our resources that we can collectively transform the economic destiny of our populations.”

BDEAC President Dieudonné Evou Mekou welcomed the signing of the new facility agreement:

“It confirms the excellent quality of the partnership between BDEAC and Afreximbank, two institutions leading the financing of African economies. This credit line will enable BDEAC to strengthen and diversify its operations within the CEMAC area, thereby making a more significant contribution to regional economic integration, sustainable development, and the improvement of living conditions for our populations, in line with Strategic Focus No. 1 of the AZOBE 2023–2027 Strategic Plan.”

The establishment of this new facility further affirms the high quality of the partnership between the two financial institutions committed to Africa’s economic development.

BDEAC is the regional development finance institution for the CEMAC bloc and has maintained a longstanding partnership with Afreximbank.
