Strategic Expansion: EasyJet Establishes Its First African Base in Morocco

The airline EasyJet has reached a major milestone in its expansion strategy by announcing the establishment of its first operational base in Africa, located in Marrakech, Morocco. According to Travel Weekly, this new hub is expected to become operational by next spring.

Deployment Details and Key Partnership

Three aircraft will be permanently stationed at Marrakech Airport. The base will serve a total of 24 destinations and is expected to create 100 local jobs.

This initiative is part of a long-term partnership signed with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT). Through this agreement, the low-cost carrier plans to offer a record four million seats to Morocco during the base’s first year of operation.

Expanded Routes and Increased Capacity

The opening of the new base will be accompanied by the launch of four new routes from continental Europe, including Hamburg, Lille, and Strasbourg. As a result, EasyJet’s total network to Morocco will expand to 46 routes.

In addition, several existing routes will see increased flight frequencies over the course of 2026. The establishment of the Marrakech base will also enable EasyJet to free up capacity across its global network and explore new destinations in Europe.

Marrakech: A Rapidly Growing Market

EasyJet CEO Kenton Jarvis expressed his enthusiasm about the announcement, stating:

“I am delighted to announce this historic partnership and the establishment of a new base in Marrakech.

He highlighted the strategic importance of Morocco for the airline:

“Morocco is undoubtedly a key market for EasyJet — we are the largest carrier to Morocco from both the UK and Switzerland.”

Mr. Jarvis also noted that Morocco represents the fastest-growing market for EasyJet outside Europe and remains a major destination for its customer base.

In conclusion, he added:

“With this new development and the opening of our base in Marrakech, we will expand our leisure and business offerings in Morocco.”
