RATP Dev, the main public transport operator in Casablanca since 2012, has confirmed the successful launch of two new tramway lines, T3 and T4, in Morocco’s economic capital. This sustainable mode of transport aims to streamline and facilitate mobility for residents and tourists in this rapidly growing city.
Building on the trusted partnership between Casa Transports and RATP Dev, which began with the launch of the T1 tram line in 2012 and T2 in 2019, the two new tram lines T3 and T4 were successfully inaugurated more than a decade later. These lines, part of RATP Dev Casablanca’s transport offering, integrate seamlessly into the city’s public transport network. This sustainable transport solution is designed to meet the growing urban mobility demands in Morocco’s most densely populated metropolis, home to over 4 million people. The tramway is an accessible, safe, reliable, and modern public transport option that aims to ease movement for both Casablanca residents and tourists while reducing urban congestion.
High-Performance Lines for Improved Mobility
The T3 and T4 tram lines complement the routes of the first two operational tram lines, spanning 25 km, with 39 stations and several multimodal transfer points connecting to tram lines T1 and T2, as well as the two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines Casabusway, inaugurated last March and which have recorded nearly 5 million trips since their launch.
The ridership of the T3 and T4 lines is expected to exceed 20 million trips by 2025, significantly increasing public transport usage in Casablanca. The service operates from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday to Sunday, with an initial frequency of one tram every 11 minutes, which will gradually increase.
Hiba Farès, President of RATP Dev, stated: “We are deeply honored by Casa Transports’ renewed trust over the past 12 years, as reflected in the many large-scale projects we’ve completed together. Our local subsidiary, RATP Dev Casablanca, along with all our teams, are fully committed to developing sustainable urban mobility in Casablanca and improving the daily lives of residents. The inauguration of the new tramway lines T3 and T4 demonstrates our long-standing commitment to the city, as well as the environmental and societal benefits of urban mobility.”
Modernization Tools to Support Network Expansion
To enhance the transport services provided by RATP Dev Casablanca, a project to overhaul passenger information, launched several months ago, aims to improve the user experience before, during, and after their journeys. Studies conducted among users helped analyze how they interpret passenger information, making it more accessible and understandable. The new passenger information system covers all lines, connections, and services, better serving the Greater Casablanca area.
RATP Dev Casablanca also contributed to the construction of the largest tramway and BRT operations and maintenance center in the El Hantate district, covering an area of 6.5 hectares. This center will centralize the management of tramway and BRT lines, as well as operations regulation and control in Casablanca. It features eight tracks dedicated to tramway maintenance and three for BRT maintenance, with storage capacity for 48 trams, each 64 meters long, and 25 BRT vehicles, each 21 meters long.
