South Africa – Digistics recognized for its commitment to a sustainable supply chain

Logistics company Digistics won the Environmental Preservation Award at the 2025 Africa Supply Chain Excellence Awards (ASCEA). This recognition highlights the company’s efforts to create a greener supply chain across the continent.

The award-winning initiative included the installation of solar panels and battery storage on the rooftops of its distribution centers. This measure has enabled the company to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 15%, while lowering energy costs and ensuring operational continuity during power outages.

Digistics was also praised for its use of the AxlePower trailer fleet, the largest in Africa. These innovative vehicles generate and store kinetic energy to power refrigeration systems, eliminating the need for diesel. This not only reduces emissions but is also expected to save approximately R600,000 in fuel costs over the fleet’s lifecycle.

Additionally, the company’s solar truck technology improves energy efficiency, saving 3.49 liters of diesel per hour and reducing CO₂ emissions by 2.2 tons per vehicle per month.

In a statement, Digistics said the award validates its vision and reinforces its position as a logistics leader in Africa, while emphasizing its commitment to reducing emissions, lowering operating costs, and enhancing resilience in the face of energy challenges.
