On July 1st, 2025, the Suez Canal Automotive Terminal (SCAT), Egypt’s very first automotive logistics terminal, officially began operations. This major project is the result of a strategic partnership between three global leaders: Africa Global Logistics (AGL), Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), and Toyota Tsusho Corporation.
Located at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal, SCAT is strategically positioned to become a key logistics hub. Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, the terminal can simultaneously accommodate two large car carriers and initially offers a scalable storage capacity of 2,550 vehicles across 21.2 hectares. This capacity is expected to expand to 10,000 vehicles, enabling the terminal to handle a significant volume of imports, exports, and transshipment operations.
This consortium brings together unparalleled expertise. AGL, a major player in African transport and logistics, contributes its deep knowledge of the continent. NYK, a global expert in maritime transport and automotive terminal management, ensures optimal operational efficiency. Lastly, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, the general trading company of the Toyota Group, brings extensive experience in automotive activities across Africa.
The SCAT terminal will be operated under a 30-year concession, with the goal of handling up to 50,000 vehicles per year from the outset. Olivier De Noray, Managing Director of Ports & Terminals at AGL, emphasized the significance of the initiative:
“The launch of SCAT is a major opportunity for the continent, particularly for Egypt and the surrounding region. It will effectively meet the anticipated growth in the regional automotive market and demonstrates our shared commitment to supporting local economic development. We are very proud to co-create this terminal with such outstanding partners.”
By joining forces, AGL, NYK, and Toyota Tsusho aim to stimulate Egypt’s economy and unlock new opportunities for the entire regional automotive sector. The opening of SCAT further strengthens Egypt’s position as a vital logistics hub in North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean, fully equipped to meet the rising demands of the automotive market.
