World’s First Battery to Survive 18-Tonne Truck Run Over

● Roam has successfully demonstrated the extreme durability of its recently launched Roam Air Gen 3 battery by subjecting it to a real-world stress test of being run over by an 18-tonne truck, and it continues to operate normally.

● Built with an industrial-grade die-cast aluminium casing and backed by a 100,000 km guarantee, it is engineered to withstand the demanding conditions faced by commercial riders across Africa.

● Delivering over 1 km of range per minute and reaching 20% to 80% charge in under 40 minutes, the IP67-rated, fully submersible battery combines performance, durability, and integrated GPS tracking for real-world reliability.

Roam, Africa’s fastest-growing electric mobility company according to the Financial Times (2025), has successfully demonstrated the extreme durability of its Roam Air Gen 3 battery by subjecting it to a real-world stress test: being run over by an 18-tonne truck.

Following the test, the battery was retrieved, reinstalled into a Roam Air Gen 3 motorcycle, and continued to operate normally. The demonstration highlights the battery’s industrial-grade construction and its ability to withstand the demanding conditions faced by commercial riders across Africa.

The Roam Gen 3 battery is engineered with an IP67-rated enclosure for water resistance, an industrial-grade die-cast aluminium casing for structural strength, and advanced internal protection systems to safeguard performance under impact, vibration, and environmental exposure.

In addition to its rugged design, the Gen 3 battery delivers market-leading performance, including charging speeds of more than 1 kilometre of range per minute, reaching 20% to 80% charge in under 40 minutes using a 2.2 kW charging infrastructure. It also features integrated GPS tracking, enabling real-time monitoring and anti-theft protection via a mobile application.

Backed by a 100,000 km guarantee, the Roam Air Gen 3 battery is designed to reduce downtime, lower operating costs, and provide consistent performance in real-world conditions.

Habib Lukaya, Roam Country Manager, said: “Durability for us is not a specifi cation on paper, but it is something riders rely on every day. This test refl ects the environments our customers operate in, and why we engineer every component to keep them moving, no matter the conditions. In these high-demand environments, equipment failure directly translates to lost income. The Roam Gen 3 battery addresses this by combining durability, fast charging, and smart monitoring into a single, integrated system.”
