The Bureau of Investigation into Aviation Incidents and Accidents (BEIAA) has officially launched a training session dedicated to First Information Investigators (EPI), marking a strategic step in reinforcing Gabon’s air safety system.
The opening ceremony, held in the VIP lounge of GSEZ AIRPORT, was chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport, Merchant Marine, and Logistics, Anatole KABOUNOU ONKONI, representing the Minister of State. Also present were the Director of the BEIAA, the Minister of State’s Communication Advisor, as well as international experts, including representatives from the Regional School of Air Navigation and Management (ERNAM) in Dakar.
In his opening remarks, the Secretary General welcomed this initiative as a major milestone in the national air safety policy, aligned with the vision of the Head of State and Government, His Excellency Brice Clotaire OLIGUI NGUEMA. The Head of State places a high priority on strengthening local expertise to ensure the safety of airport infrastructures throughout the country.
“Civil aviation, like any human activity, carries risks. However, with well-trained professionals, these risks can be managed. First information investigators play a crucial role in the initial hours following an incident,” emphasized the Secretary General in his speech.
The objective of this training is to provide participants with the necessary tools to respond swiftly and effectively in the event of an accident, while acquiring the fundamentals of the international regulatory framework governing investigations. It also aims to foster inter-institutional collaboration and strengthen the culture of air safety.
The session, taking place from June 16 to 20, 2025, is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the technical skills of Gabonese personnel and professionalize careers related to civil aviation. It reaffirms Gabon’s commitment to align with international safety standards and modernize its aviation sector.
