Lomé will be the African Capital of the Blue Economy in September 2025, during the second edition of Maritimafrica Week, a major forum dedicated to the Blue Economy in Africa. The event, organized by Maritimafrica Media Group, will take place from Wednesday, September 10 to Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Sarakawa Hotel, under the theme “For a Bright Blue Future in Africa.”

In the face of contemporary challenges such as climate change, food security, and environmental sustainability, the Blue Economy represents a promising solution for the continent. The event will highlight Africa’s immense maritime potential, featuring a rich and diverse program. Participants will attend conferences and seminars, explore exhibitions, enjoy B2B meetings, and take part in visits to Togolese maritime infrastructures.

The forum is a unique platform for professionals, governments, businesses, civil society, and academia to present and exchange on the latest technological innovations, practices, and sector regulations. It also aims to showcase the initiatives of companies, institutions, and NGOs, while highlighting Togo’s efforts in developing the Blue Economy. Furthermore, it seeks to promote the role of women and encourage the next generation of professionals.

The inaugural conference, entitled “Governance and Policies for an Integrated Blue Economy in Africa”, will be led by the eminent Professor Martin Ndende – Director of the Center for Maritime and Ocean Law, setting the stage for in-depth discussions. Five major panels, featuring African and international experts, will address key themes such as the strategic role of public and parliamentary institutions in advancing the Blue Economy, balancing blue growth with climate resilience for the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems, and the role of ports, logistics, and corridors as drivers of African economic integration. Other panels will focus on maritime and port security, as a pillar of competitiveness and sovereignty, as well as port performance and digital transformation, paving the way for smarter and more competitive African ports.
