The government of Democratic Republic of Congo seeking Tunisian tech expertise to boost digital sector. Congolese Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital, Augustin Kibassa Maliba, embarked on an official visit to Tunis as part of a strategic initiative aimed at deepening digital cooperation between the two nations.
During his mission, Minister Kibassa Maliba is expected to hold high-level meetings, including a ministerial session with Tunisia’s Ministry of Communication Technologies. His schedule also features engagements with key stakeholders such as the Tunisian ICT Federation (UTICA) and the Tunisian African Business Council (TABC). Additionally, he will attend a presentation on the Ecom@Africa digital trade platform and Tunisian postal services, providing insights into potential collaborative ventures.
Smart Tunisian Technoparks
One of the highlights of the visit includes an in-depth exploration of the Smart Tunisian Technoparks (S2T), a renowned hub for technological innovation, research, entrepreneurship, and digital training. These technoparks serve as a model of how strategic ecosystems can nurture innovation and facilitate international collaboration. A central topic of discussion will be the development of a similar Technopark in Kinshasa, with the aim of replicating Tunisia’s successful model to support Congolese digital transformation.
This initiative is in line with the DRC government’s broader vision to create a robust and inclusive digital ecosystem. By drawing on Tunisia’s expertise, the DRC hopes to foster local entrepreneurship, digitize public services, and better integrate into regional and global digital networks. The partnership also seeks to accelerate the modernization of postal services and enhance the delivery of online public services.
Tunisia has emerged as a leading player in Africa’s digital landscape. According to the International Telecommunication Union’s 2024 report, over 92% of Tunisians are internet users—far above the global average. Tunisia also ranks third in Africa for digital governance, based on the United Nations’ E-Government Development Index. These achievements position the country as an ideal partner for nations like the DRC looking to advance their digital agendas through knowledge sharing and joint innovation efforts.
