Approximately 55 billion CFA francs. That is the substantial amount allocated by the government of President Patrice Talon to further alleviate the hardships of the populations of Mono, Couffo, and Atlantique in terms of road infrastructure and the modernization of their living environment. More than 120 kilometers of roads will be built within the next 24 months. This was the key takeaway from the official launch ceremony, which took place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Azovê Sports Field.

Presided over by the Minister of Sports, Mr. Benoît DATO, representing the Minister of State in charge of Economy and Finance, the launch ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including members of parliament, officials, traditional leaders, elders, and local notables, as well as jubilant residents, delighted to see their long-held dream finally come true thanks to President Patrice Talon’s government.

The event marked the official start of several road infrastructure projects, including:

  • The development and paving of the Azovè-Houegamè-Klouékanmè road (17.20 km)
  • The rehabilitation of the RN2 (City Hall) – Sitex – IUT – RN2 Bis road (3 km)
  • The earthwork of the Bopa-Lobogo-Tozounmè-Dogbo road (34 km) and the Bopa-Djidjozoun-Allada road (35.30 km), for a total cost of 31,441,995,620 CFA francs
  • The launch of sanitation and street paving projects under the asphalt road program in the communes of Aplahoué (12 km), Comè (3 km), Dogbo (5 km), Djakotomey (6 km), and Grand-Popo (5 km) for a budget of 23,474,429,496 CFA francs.

According to Minister-Counselor Jacques AYADJI, the Mono-Couffo Project aims to:

  • Improve the service level of road transport infrastructure, enhancing the attractiveness of all the areas covered;
  • Reduce vehicle operating costs;
  • Facilitate access to basic socio-community infrastructure for the population;
  • Reduce travel time;
  • Ease the transportation of agricultural products and goods to marketplaces;
  • Promote balanced territorial development;
  • Boost local economies and increase the financial resources of the population;
  • Strengthen the national economy.

This announcement was met with enthusiasm from Aplahoué Mayor Maxime ALLOSSOGBE and the Prefects Christophe MEGBEDJI and Bienvenu Dêdêgnon MILOHIN, who expressed their satisfaction: “President Patrice Talon is a man of his word. He always keeps his promises,” they said, assuring their full support for the companies responsible for the work.

Regarding the road infrastructure projects, QGMI has been given 24 months to complete the work, while Fadil has 18 months to finalize the sanitation and street paving under the asphalt program.

These major projects add to the numerous others already completed or nearing completion—clear evidence of President Patrice Talon’s government’s commitment to providing all regions of Benin with modern road infrastructure and a decent living environment.
