Strengthened cooperation between Senegal and the AfDB for Transport infrastructure development

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport (MITTA) recently met with a mission from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to discuss the revision of the infrastructure financing strategy in Senegal. The main objective is to align this strategy with the ambitious goals of the Vision Senegal 2050 framework, which aims to transform the country into an emerging economy by 2050.

Several key entities in the infrastructure sector, such as AGEROUTE, CETUD, SENTER and the Senegal Railways (CFS), participated in this meeting, highlighting the importance of a collaborative and integrated approach to meet the country’s infrastructure needs.

The MITTA, subject to the approval of the head of government, is committed to ardently defending the realization of several major projects, including:

  • The project to develop and build the multi-level “4 stack” interchange at the Foire: This ambitious project aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the Dakar region, a major challenge for urban mobility.
  • The traffic regulation project in Dakar: This essential project is part of a comprehensive strategy to optimize traffic and improve the quality of life for residents of the Senegalese capital.

In addition to these flagship projects, the MITTA also supports ongoing and future initiatives, depending on the priorities that will be defined by the Senegalese government. Discussions with the AfDB focused on various key sectors, such as mobility, road, rail and airport infrastructure, to determine how the AfDB can, through its country strategy, support Senegal in financing its priority projects.

This close collaboration between Senegal and the AfDB reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening essential infrastructure and improving mobility, while taking into account the challenges of sustainable development and regional integration. The exchanges were fruitful, highlighting the need for an effective financing strategy tailored to Senegal’s specific needs.

In conclusion, this meeting marks an important step in infrastructure development in Senegal. The strengthened cooperation between the MITTA and the AfDB, as well as the government’s commitment to defending ambitious projects, pave the way for a future where Senegal will have modern and efficient infrastructure, serving its people and its economic development.
