Seychelles – Geneva: Cillia Mangroo officially takes up her post at the World Trade Organization

Seychelles joined the WTO as its 161st member in April 2015 and has been actively engaged in defending its trade interests while promoting inclusive and sustainable development within the multilateral trading system.

Ms. Cillia Ardyna Mangroo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Seychelles, officially presented her credentials as Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to Her Excellency Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the WTO in Geneva, on Monday, 15 September 2025.

On this occasion, Ambassador Mangroo held discussions with Director-General Okonjo-Iweala on key trade issues for Seychelles, including the country’s role in the ongoing negotiations on fisheries subsidies and the importance of strengthening the voice of African members within the multilateral trading system.

Ambassador Mangroo reaffirmed Seychelles’ commitment to the WTO and its principles, as well as the country’s determination to further its engagement within the Organization in order to balance national interests with global trade objectives.
