As part of the planned work on the runway of Hassan Djamous International Airport (IHDN) and in compliance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Ministry of Transport, Civil Aviation, and National Meteorology, in partnership with RAZEL Chad, has launched a series of brainstorming sessions focused on the safety study related to the rehabilitation of the airport’s aeronautical areas. These sessions, taking place from March 11 to 15, 2025, were officially inaugurated by the Secretary-General of the Ministry, Mr. Dihoulne Laurent.
The objective of these brainstorming sessions is to analyze potential hazards that may arise during the implementation of the rehabilitation works and to identify necessary mitigation measures to ensure an optimal level of safety in compliance with international regulatory requirements. The experts and stakeholders involved emphasized several critical aspects, including the severity of safety risks, the probability of their occurrence, and the development of a risk assessment matrix—an essential tool for the rigorous and proactive management of vulnerabilities identified during these discussions.
The rehabilitation works will be carried out in an airport that will remain operational throughout the project. In this context, a preliminary study was deemed essential before any modification of airport infrastructure. These in-depth analyses aim to assess the project’s impact on the safety of air operations and propose appropriate mitigation measures to ensure an optimal balance between operational requirements and safety imperatives.
Through these working sessions, the goal is to structure an effective technical and operational approach to guarantee the security and reliability of airport facilities. The ultimate objective is to formulate strategic recommendations and tailored solutions that will enhance the airport’s resilience to security challenges.
The Ministry of Transport, Civil Aviation, and National Meteorology, in collaboration with RAZEL Chad, thus reaffirms its commitment to developing modern and secure airport infrastructure, contributing to the improvement of national air transport performance and enhancing Chad’s attractiveness on the international stage.
