On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation, and National Meteorology, Fatima Goukouni Weddeye, chaired a technical meeting to assess the progress of the rehabilitation works underway at the Hassan Djamouss International Airport in N’Djamena.
The works, which began on March 22, 2025, have now reached more than 64% completion. According to Elabdi Elalaoui Younes, the head of the works supervision mission, completion of the main runway’s central axis is expected by June 17, 2025. Only the runway shoulders and turnaround areas will remain, which will be carried out in parallel with the energy and lighting (aeronautical beaconing) components of the project.
While acknowledging the significant progress made, Minister Weddeye emphasized the need to meet the final deadline, especially considering the onset of the rainy season in N’Djamena. She also stressed the importance of strictly adhering to the airport’s opening and closing times to avoid disrupting regular air traffic.
Minister Weddeye encouraged both the project monitoring team and the supervisory firm to work closely with the contractor to minimize the impact of the rehabilitation works on airline operations.
This close oversight reflects the government’s commitment to completing the works in line with the contract’s terms. It is part of a broader national policy to modernize airport infrastructure, as outlined in the political program of the President of the Republic, Head of State, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.
With the rehabilitation of this airport, Chad aims to become better connected and more competitive on the regional and international stage.
