China is emerging as a key partner in Africa’s digital transformation, providing technology and investments to support the continent’s growing digital economy. Alaa Ezz, Secretary General of the Union of African Chambers of Commerce, highlighted this commitment during the second edition of China’s International Supply Chain Expo, which concluded on November 30 in Beijing.
Africa’s Vast Digital Potential
With untapped potential in e-commerce and digital services, Africa is well-positioned to benefit from the ongoing global digital shift. “China, with its advanced technology and strategic investments, will play a major role in this digital transformation,” said Alaa Ezz.
In recent years, Sino-African economic cooperation has expanded to cover critical sectors such as infrastructure development, green energy, and the digital economy. As global digitization accelerates, Africa is stepping up efforts to boost its digital economy, aiming to improve connectivity, foster innovation, and create new job opportunities.
The Supply Chain Expo: A Bridge to Global Cooperation
China’s International Supply Chain Expo provided participants with an opportunity to strengthen ties with Chinese companies and institutions while forging new collaborations with other regions of the world. Alaa Ezz described the event, which focused on logistics and free trade, as a platform for overcoming tariff and non-tariff barriers that hinder international trade.
“These barriers ultimately burden ordinary citizens, who bear the costs. We must promote smoother and more equitable trade for all,” he added.
A Strategic Partnership with China
Africa, which remains open to diversified global partnerships, has greatly benefited from its strategic cooperation with China, the continent’s largest investor and trading partner. “Chinese investments in infrastructure, including ports, railways, and roads, have opened new trade routes for African nations, especially landlocked countries,” stated Alaa Ezz.
The Chinese “Belt and Road Initiative” also received praise from the Secretary General, who called it “a vital link connecting Africa to China and the rest of the world.” This initiative seeks to further integrate Africa into global trade networks while promoting sustainable development on the continent.
A Promising Future Through Sino-African Cooperation
According to Alaa Ezz, close collaboration with China represents an unparalleled opportunity for Africa to progress toward a more prosperous and sustainable future. As digitization reshapes global trade and economies, China’s commitment is seen as a crucial driver in helping Africa realize its digital and economic potential.
By deepening its ties with China, Africa is not only attracting critical investments but also positioning itself within a global framework of innovation and international cooperation, paving the way for inclusive and sustainable growth.
