Economic relations between China and the African continent continue to strengthen. According to the latest official data released this Monday by the General Administration of Customs of China, the volume of trade between China and African countries reached a record high in the first five months of 2025.
From January to May, the volume of China-Africa trade recorded a significant increase of 12.4% year-on-year, totaling 963.21 billion yuan, or approximately 134 billion US dollars. This figure now represents 5.4% of China’s total foreign trade, highlighting the growing importance of the African market for the Chinese economy.
In detail, China’s exports to Africa saw a sharp increase of 20.2% on an annual basis, reaching 599.57 billion yuan during this period. At the same time, Chinese imports from Africa also rose by 1.6%, settling at 363.64 billion yuan.
These record figures demonstrate the positive dynamic of bilateral trade relations and the deepening economic ties between China and Africa.
