Congo Terminal Completes Construction of Cold Storage Facility at the New East Mole Port Hub
Republic of the Congo | Port Infrastructure and Logistics
Congo Terminal has reached a significant milestone in the development of the new East Mole port platform at the Port of Pointe-Noire, following the completion of the structural works for its new refrigerated container yard on October 21, 2026.
The project includes 24 reefer gantries providing 1,680 refrigerated container power connections. With this additional capacity, Congo Terminal’s total number of reefer connections has increased from 1,869 to 3,549, representing a substantial expansion of its cold-chain infrastructure.
Increased Capacity for Temperature-Controlled Cargo
The new facility is designed to accommodate the growing regional demand for refrigerated and frozen goods. By expanding its reefer capacity, Congo Terminal aims to improve its ability to handle increasing volumes of temperature-sensitive cargo while supporting the development of regional trade.
Maintaining an uninterrupted cold chain is essential for the transport of perishable products, particularly foodstuffs and other temperature-sensitive goods. Appropriate infrastructure helps preserve cargo quality throughout the logistics process, from arrival at the terminal to onward shipment.
According to Emmanuel Addo, Operations Director at Congo Terminal, the expansion responds directly to the changing logistics needs of the sub-region. The additional infrastructure is expected to strengthen the company’s role in handling frozen and perishable goods.
East Mole: A Strategic Investment for Pointe-Noire
The new refrigerated container yard forms part of the broader East Mole expansion project at the Port of Pointe-Noire.
Through this investment, Congo Terminal aims to increase its operational capacity and improve the services available to shipping lines, importers and exporters. The expansion of refrigerated storage infrastructure is also expected to enhance the port’s ability to handle cargo requiring controlled temperatures.
As regional demand for food products and other perishable goods continues to evolve, the availability of additional reefer connections could help strengthen Pointe-Noire’s position within Central Africa’s maritime logistics network.
Congo Terminal Continues to Develop Its Port Infrastructure
Congo Terminal, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL), is the exclusive operator of container and roll-on/roll-off vessel handling activities at the Port of Pointe-Noire. Operating under a public-private partnership, the company plays an important role in the development of the Republic of the Congo’s port and logistics sector.
The company employs nearly 900 Congolese staff and holds several certifications, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISPS, alongside other initiatives relating to operational safety and environmental performance.
The completion of the structural works for the new refrigerated container yard marks another step in the development of the East Mole platform. With its expanded cold-chain capacity, Congo Terminal is strengthening its ability to support regional cargo flows and the logistics requirements of temperature-sensitive goods.
