Nigeria: Jumia Expands Logistics Footprint to Unlock E-commerce Growth in Underserved Regions

Jumia is accelerating its expansion strategy in Nigeria, reinforcing its logistics backbone to reach millions of new consumers beyond major urban centers. In a press release dated April 8, 2026, Jumia Nigeria announced a significant rollout of its logistics and pickup network nationwide, targeting underserved regions and high-growth secondary cities.

A Strategic Push into Upcountry Markets

Executed during the first quarter of 2026, the expansion reflects a clear strategic shift toward inland and northern markets. States such as Kebbi, Sokoto, and Kaduna are now better integrated into Jumia’s logistics grid, while key urban hubs like Zaria are seeing strengthened operations.

This move aims to bridge long-standing access gaps in regions where demand for online retail is rising but infrastructure has lagged behind.

Strengthening Density in Major Urban Hubs

At the same time, Jumia Nigeria is deepening its presence in Nigeria’s primary commercial centers, including Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

This densification strategy includes:

  • Expanding pickup station networks
  • Increasing delivery touchpoints
  • Investing in parcel distribution centers

These improvements are designed to decentralize inventory flows, reduce delivery times, and optimize operating costs across regions.

Enabling Inclusive Digital Commerce

According to Temidayo Ojo, CEO of Jumia Nigeria, the expansion reflects a deeper shift in consumer behavior:

““We are seeing a structural shift in where demand is coming from. What this expansion does is align our infrastructure with that reality. By extending our network deeper into the country, we are not only improving service delivery, but we are also unlocking new demand, enabling more sellers to participate in the digital economy… ”

Beyond logistics, the initiative aims to:

  • Integrate more local sellers into the digital marketplace
  • Stimulate consumption in underserved regions
  • Build a more inclusive national retail ecosystem

Scaling Last-Mile Delivery and Job Creation

The expansion also strengthens last-mile delivery capabilities. Jumia Nigeria is leveraging an expanded network of logistics partners and JForce agents, improving fulfillment efficiency while creating income opportunities across the country.

This hybrid model—combining physical infrastructure with decentralized delivery networks—is key to supporting growing order volumes across a geographically diverse customer base.

Expanding Toward Full National Coverage

Looking ahead, Jumia Nigeria plans to extend its footprint further into Nigeria’s South-East and South-South regions ahead of peak retail seasons.

With this expansion, Jumia reinforces its ambition to build one of the most accessible and inclusive e-commerce ecosystems in Africa, while laying the groundwork for scalable, nationwide logistics infrastructure.
