Morocco Strengthens Its Position in the MENA Truck Market

According to a recent report by IndexBox, Morocco is emerging as one of the most dynamic truck markets in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). In 2024, the country consumed 77,000 units, accounting for 10% of the region’s total demand.

An exceptional growth rate
What sets Morocco apart is its sustained pace of growth. Over the past decade, truck consumption has increased by an average of nearly 9.6% per year. This is the fastest growth in the entire MENA region, in contrast with the decline in demand observed in many other countries since the 2013 peak.

Thanks to this momentum, Morocco has become the region’s third-largest truck importer, with 43,000 units imported in 2024. It now ranks behind Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but ahead of other major players such as Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Algeria.

Key success factors
Several factors explain this strong growth:

  • Strategic investments: Morocco has made massive investments in its logistics and transport infrastructure. Cities like Casablanca, Tangier, and Agadir have become major regional trade hubs.
  • Creation of industrial zones: The development of new zones such as Kénitra, Tangier Med, and Jorf Lasfar has boosted demand for trucks to support a rapidly expanding commercial sector.
  • Modernization of the road fleet: Road transport is vital in Morocco, handling over 90% of domestic freight flows. The country is working to renew its vehicle fleet, still largely composed of old trucks, in order to improve competitiveness.

An investor-focused strategy
While Turkey remains the region’s undisputed leader, Morocco has opted for a different strategy. Rather than focusing on mass production, the country aims to attract foreign investors specializing in truck assembly and distribution.

With free trade agreements with the European Union and privileged access to Sub-Saharan Africa, Morocco is becoming increasingly attractive to international manufacturers. This approach strengthens its position as a strategic platform linking Europe and Africa.

Conclusion
Morocco’s truck market reflects the country’s broader economic ambitions. It confirms its role as an African hub, ready to leverage its unique geographic position to establish itself on the global logistics stage.
