In a move to enhance air connectivity in Central Africa, Air France and Afrijet have signed a new cooperation agreement that will facilitate travel between Libreville, Bangui (Central African Republic), and Port Harcourt (Nigeria). This agreement, part of the IATA interline framework, will allow passengers of both airlines to travel with a single ticket without needing to collect their baggage during stopovers.
Libreville, a New Transit Hub
Thanks to this collaboration, Léon Mba International Airport in Libreville is establishing itself as a strategic transit hub in Central Africa. The new routes will operate as follows:
Port Harcourt: One weekly flight until March 29, 2025, increasing to two weekly flights from March 30, 2025.
Bangui: Two weekly flights via Libreville starting March 30, 2025, complementing Air France’s direct flight between Paris-CDG and Bangui.
This initiative aims to provide smoother connectivity for Nigerian and Central African passengers with Air France’s global network while optimizing Afrijet’s regional network.
A Seamless Travel Experience
One of the key benefits of this agreement is the enhanced passenger experience. Travelers will now be able to:
Book their journey in one step with a single Air France ticket combining flights from both airlines.
Check in their luggage directly to their final destination, avoiding baggage collection during layovers.
Enjoy a streamlined and efficient transit process in Libreville.
Benefit from accommodation coverage in case of a missed connection in Libreville due to flight delays.
A Strategic Partnership for the Future
For Air France, this agreement marks a significant step in its expansion across Africa. Henri Hourcade, Air France’s Senior Vice President for North, West, and Central Africa, highlights the importance of this partnership extension:
“This is an important milestone that enables us to offer better connectivity and a seamless travel experience for our passengers.”
Similarly, Nyl Moret-Mba, CEO of Afrijet Business Service, emphasizes the value of partnerships in strengthening Africa’s interconnectivity:
“This extended cooperation allows us to offer our customers tailored travel solutions while adhering to IATA’s safety and quality standards.”
A Commitment to Sustainable Growth
This agreement aligns with a broader strategy to develop air transport on the continent. Air France, already committed to reducing its carbon footprint, sees these new routes as an opportunity to optimize its network while improving connections between Africa and the rest of the world.
For Afrijet, a major player in Central African air transport, this expansion supports its ambition to grow its network, which will include 17 destinations and 200 weekly flights by 2025.
With this collaboration, Air France and Afrijet are strengthening their presence in Africa and addressing the growing mobility needs across the continent.
