Côte d’Ivoire: Strong measures against road incivism

In order to reinforce the fight against road incivism, the Ivorian Government adopted on August 3, a new decree to provide itself with dissuasive legal instruments, capable of improving the behavior of road users and preserving the lives of the population.

“Adopted with a view to strengthening the fight against road insecurity, Decree No. 2022-631 of August 3, 2022 amending Decree No. 2016-864 of November 3, 2016 regulating the use of roadways open to public traffic uses information technology and communication (ICT), including the digitization of procedures for the establishment and notification of road violations,” said a press release.

This new decree provides, among other things, in its article 145 “the assignment to each driver’s license of a capital point that will be subject to reduction in case of violation committed by its holder” said the same release.

A driver loses the validity of his license when, following several offenses, he uses up his allocated points. In this case, he must go through the tests provided for in Article 131 of the decree referred to, before resuming his driving license.

Also the decree harmonizes the fines related to traffic offences while indicating the different contraventions related to the highway code.
